Rekha Gupta is currently serving as the 9th Chief Minister of Delhi, the capital of the country. Her tenure marks a historic moment, as it signifies the Bharatiya Janata Party’s return to power in the national capital after nearly three decades. Her elevation to this position represents the culmination of more than three decades of unwavering commitment to public service and dedicated political engagement at the grassroots, municipal, and state levels.
As Chief Minister, Rekha Gupta’s governance philosophy is closely aligned with the collective vision of Team Modi and is driven by a clear mission to make Delhi healthier, better educated, and more equitable. She firmly believes that the city must receive the rights, opportunities, and development it has long been denied. Her approach to leadership is rooted in tireless work, honesty in intent, and focus on tangible outcomes, reflecting her conviction that real development is achieved through consistent action on the ground rather than rhetoric or empty promises.
On the occasion of Civil Services Day, Delhi Lieutenant Governor Sardar Taranjit Singh Sandhu and Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta jointly presented the inaugural 'Chief Minister's Awards for Excellence and Innovation in Governance and Public Service Delivery 2026', honouring 35 outstanding officials across four categories for their exceptional contributions to strengthening governance and improving public service delivery. LG Sandhu said civil service is about upholding public trust, emphasising that true governance lies in how transparently and efficiently services reach the last person. CM Rekha Gupta described civil service as a commitment to nation-building, adding that the awards — inspired by the Prime Minister's Awards for Excellence launched in 2014 — will foster a healthy competitive environment and strengthen work culture across Delhi's administration. Awardees were selected through a transparent high-level committee chaired by the Chief Secretary, recognising innovation, emergency management and digital governance improvements across departments including Education, Revenue, Health, PWD, DMRC, DJB and Tihar Jail, among others. The Delhi government announced that these awards will now be conferred annually every Civil Services Day, reaffirming its commitment to taking Delhi's governance model to global standards through citizen-centric policies and administrative excellence.
