On the death anniversary of Bharat Ratna former Prime Minister Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ji, the Delhi Government fulfilled its election manifesto pledge of establishing 100 Atal Canteens in just eight months - with former Vice President Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu Inaugurated 25 new Atal Canteens from the Vishwavidyalaya Metro Station in the presence of Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta, MP Manoj Tiwari and Urban Development Minister Ashish Sood. Launched on December 25, 2025 — Atal Ji's 101th birth anniversary - the scheme has already served approximately 95 lakh subsidised meals at just ₹5 per thali, with 100 canteens now capable of serving 1 lakh people daily and 3.65 crore meals annually. CM Rekha Gupta said the milestone is a meaningful tribute to Atal Ji's spirit of Antyodaya and his lifelong commitment to the welfare of the last person in society, reaffirming that no needy person in the national capital will sleep hungry. She announced that a new canteen near Delhi University Metro Station will specifically serve university students living away from home in hostels and PG accommodations, assuring students that the government stands firmly with them. She also highlighted that migrant labourers whose hard work powers Delhi's industries, construction and households - are among the primary beneficiaries of the scheme, calling it the government's responsibility to act with sensitivity and respect towards them.Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu praised the initiative as a true example of sensitivity and service, embodying the principle of 'Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah'. Rekha Gupta attended the Spiritual and Heritage Tourism Conclave 2026 at Akshardham Temple, launching four spiritual and heritage tourism circuits aimed at transforming Delhi from a 'Transit City' into a 'Destination City' - encouraging tourists from India and across the world to explore the capital's diverse spiritual, cultural and historical heritage as a single integrated experience. Spiritual guru Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev was also present on the occasion.The four circuits - Soul of Delhi, Heritage of Delhi, Delhi's Sacred Harmony and Echoes of Delhi - bring together iconic spiritual and heritage sites across the capital. The Soul of Delhi circuit covers Gurudwara Bangla Sahib, Sacred Heart Cathedral, Agrasen Ki Baoli, Lotus Temple and Akshardham. The Heritage of Delhi circuit includes Birla Temple, Jhandewalan Mata Mandir, Jantar Mantar, Yogmaya Mandir and Jagannath Temple. Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta handed over appointment letters to 1,368 newly appointed teachers at a state-level ceremony at Bharat Mandapam, including 1,015 TGTs, 236 PGTs and 117 music teachers taking the total number of teachers appointed in 2026 to over 2,100, following 751 appointments made in April-May earlier this year. CM Rekha Gupta said the occasion was not merely about handing over appointment letters but about strengthening the responsibility of ensuring better education for lakhs of children in Delhi government schools. Recalling her school visits where students shared that several schools lacked teachers for subjects like science and music - with limited teachers handling multiple classes - she said the recruitment drive was a direct response to ground-level realities. She urged the newly appointed teachers to become not just subject experts but mentors, role models and guides for their students.Education Minister Ashish Sood said the government's goal is clear - wherever a teacher is needed, a teacher should be available, and every child in Delhi should have equal access to quality education. He reaffirmed that teacher recruitment, training and capacity building will continue on priority, with Delhi government schools being developed into institutions where modern infrastructure and smart classrooms are complemented by inspiring and dedicated teachers committed to nation-building.
